Learning Technologies Director, Richard Morris, chaired our Global Strategy Conference 12-15 September in our Nampa, Idaho offices. Representatives from Australia, Central America and Europe joined our Nampa based field support team for the brainstorming and planning sessions. We attempted to answer such questions as:
Building National Capacity
Submitted by nivins on Tue, 08/12/2008 - 10:00It is fascinating for me to continue to discover the various ministry opportunities that MAF LT has stepped into around the globe. Several of our staff serve in remote parts of the world quietly building capacity for local situations. The following entry tells of one such situation.
MAF LT is transitioning out of assisting a medical college in North Central Asia because the workers there have successfully applied the LT instruction and tools given to them. Back in 2003, MAF began working with an organization working on retraining doctors and nurses with modern evidence-based medicine. This USAID-sponsored humanitarian project in the region had been providing training to doctors and nurses primarily through seminars but then saw the need to transition to a distance-education model. MAF LT worked with this organization to develop their capacity to create and deliver DE courses that allow doctors and nurses to acquire new medical skills and knowledge while continuing their practices in the small villages that dot this region. One Morning in Idaho
Submitted by nivins on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 10:00In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. Psalm 5:3
One recent morning I decided to keep track of the communication that I was having with our partners around the world, people on the front lines of missions who are asking for our help. By 9:30 that morning I had interacted with the following:
- Eliane in Beirut to follow up on our training there to help them develop learner guides (Living Word Ministry)
- Mauricio in Costa Rica to discuss new staff training for a new member of our Learning Technologies team headed to Costa Rica (MAF Learning Technologies)
- Dennis in Uganda to answer questions about the Moodle site that he is setting up there for leadership training (Development Associates International)
- Mark in Kenya to review his pre-plan for developing Africa Nazarene University’s distance education program
What an honor it is to work with these saints who are giving their lives to equip leaders around the globe. Keep praying for us!
Good Gifts
Submitted by nivins on Wed, 12/26/2007 - 10:00Twas the day after Christmas
When all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The Christmas tree is lit, the snow is falling outside, and I am content with the Goodness of God.
I continue to battle the effects of jet lag, as in falling asleep many times watching “Miracle on 34th Street” last night, and waking at 5:15–thus the no mouse stirring.
But the jet lag reminds me of the good gifts He gave on our latest Learning Technologies project in Beirut and Amman where Brian Ward and I provided training to two ministries there. The most statisfying of these gifts being that the participants repeatedly stated that what we shared with them was very profitable.
But I was also surprised to be taken to several biblical sites: Mt. Nebo where Moses looked into the promised land, but did not get to go; the site on the Jordan River where John had his ministry and where
Jesus was baptized, and Rabbah, the citadel where Uriah was murdered. It was an added gift to be able to go to these sites, unexptected and appreciated. (Thanks to my hosts, T and M!)
Well, the mice are beginning to stir….
