But how will he train leaders?

We have been interacting with Naveen, an evangelist/pastor/leadership trainer in India. Naveen is seeing many come to Christ and he is actively developing leaders for the many new groups of believers where he works. The challenge is that many of them don’t read or write even one word. He is asking MAF LT to help him develop leadership development materials that he can use with these leaders.
What do “materials” for non-literates look like? What are the issues in transforming training materials written for lettered cultures into materials for oral cultures? Should that even be attempted? We invite you to participate with us through prayer for wisdom as we wade into this with Naveen.Below is a recent e-mail from him.

Subject: Re: Sister here some of the ministry report.

Dear Sister,

Greetings to you in the Holy name of our saviour Jesus Christ.

Sister, how are you? How is Bro, Jim, and how are your children doing and how is Bro. Nicholas and his family? We are praying for every one of you.

Sister, how was the workshop in Sandpoint we were praying for you and the workshop there.

When I visited last time with one of our team leader in the K. (Jungle shepherd) area and I told them one leper story that the reason these people were rejected by society and local people was that they are living as lonely community in the Jungle. So every one was inspired and the Holy Spirit started working among them. The lady who was 58 years old retold the story. She is fully illiterate and after we returned she began to tell the story to every one in her family and to all others to whom she met. Today again I was invited by their community leader.  People were waiting for us.

I was praying and prepared the story of Martha and Mary because every one here always gives the first priority to their work rather than God.  I told this Martha and Mary story. All were involved and actively answered.  In the final application I told “Jesus honored Mary when she chose to listen to Him, even when it caused her to go against her culture and the expectations of those around her. What might this teach us? They said, “Sir we have to give first priority to Jesus, not to worldly things and people. Things may perish any movement, but God Jesus gives breath even when we are in sleep.”

 Naveen Baptizing

Sister this answer was very much challenging to every one. The Holy Spirit convinced several people there—a total of seven people accepted Jesus Christ as their personal saviour and were ready for baptism. The community leader led us to the place where we found water for baptism and I baptized these people. Please find I have attach photo. Please continually pray for them.

Sister as we communicated, I will be ready for next contact on Friday 25th, at 19:30.

I believe that you are praying for us and all the ministry here and all the ministry team here.

Here all of my team leaders are doing well and reaching unreached people with the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ. Please pray for them and the basic needs in the ministry to reach our 10-year vision and goals.

Please continually pray for my elder son and continuation of his education.

Thank you very much for all your encouragement in our family and in the Lord’s ministry.

Your brother in Christ,

Naveen. India.
