The Old Sedan Gets a Hot Motor

Category: Tags:

MAF-LT’s dependable, plain-jane sedan, DEScribe, now sports a new engine. DEScribe© is a Windows based editor that allows teachers to create content in a distance education friendly format.

This new version may look like your dad's old Buick, but under the hood the new beta release - version 2.0.1 - definitely adds horsepower. Elliot Dawson, MAF-LT Programmer and Analyst, and volunteer, Paul Matovich, modified the architecture to allow for extensive future development. For example, new output modes for HTML5 and mobile apps can be developed to complement DEScribe's native outputs to DEViewer and printers. Additionally, we will be able to release bug fixes much more quickly. Click here to see the DEScribe page for more info and download links.

Does your software provide for using non-Roman alphabets? Does it have typographic functions?

DEScribe allows you to work with content from a large number of alphabets (yes, many non-Roman alphabets, including RTL languages). Also, the user interface messages and menu/button labels can be translated into many languages, although we have only provided translations in English, Russian, Spanish, and French at the moment. In response to the question of typographic functions, we have a "what you see is what you get" (a.k.a WYSIWIG) content editor, which provides the ability to set the font typeface, to create superscript and subscript text, to assign several preset heading levels, to set the alignment, and to create bulleted and numbered lists. Does that answer your question about typographical functions?
